Bob Miller
Biography
Bob Miller was born in London. After studying Graphic Design in art school for four years, he joined a specialized art directors course at J. Walter Thompson in London. Bob was one of only six students in the course who were hired. Bob worked with David Metcalf as an art director at Collet Dickenson & Pearce, during the company’s great creative period. Later he worked at BBDO with Peter Mayle and Tim Delaney, then continued on at French Gold Abbott, where he became head of the Art Department with Terry Lovelock. As an Art Director, Bob won Advertising awards on a regular basis in the Design & Art Directors Annual.
Bob began his career as a full-time photographer in 1982 and for the last twenty-five years has managed to balance major photographic advertising and editorial assignments in America and Europe with his own personal photographic projects. During his career as a photographer Bob has been the recipient of numerous awards including: two golds, one silver and seventeen merits in the Association of Photographers Awards; two silvers for the best black & white campaign two years running in the Campaign Press Awards; three Communications Arts Magazine awards in the USA; a gold award for Audi in the French Design and Art Direction book; and a silver D&AD Award for his photography for Royal Mail Stamps.
Bob is familiar with several old black and white printing techniques and spends many hours in his own darkroom. Over the last couple of years he has embraced digital imagery, using Photoshop to produce exceptional digital prints. Bob’s personal work has been exhibited regularly at a number of photographic galleries in America and Europe.
